The Android Share Menu is a complete disaster. 14 years of Android and Google still can’t fix this basic function of a smartphone. The menu is cluttered and confusing, making it a nightmare to find the right option. No, I don’t want to send a Facebook DM to someone I spoke to 4 years ago. I want to send it to my wife that I just sent 14 things to previously, she’s nowhere to be found. Customization? Forget about it. It’s a one-size-fits-all disaster. Google needs to take a hard look at this
As an IT professional, I have been recommending Chromebooks and iPads to practically everyone for years. In my experience, they are the perfect choice for most people. Recently, I purchased the Lenovo Chromebook Duet as a lighter weight replacement for my Thinkpad X230 (Don’t worry I still have a spare:). I will have a continuous guide posted soon, but I just wanted to write a short article on why I now recommend it more than ever. If you’re like most people, you probably use y

I have been using Anker Products and recommending them for years upon years. They made the best USB battery banks, cables, and wall chargers, but I no longer recommend them, and here is why. 2015 – The Beginning Our story starts in 2015 when I purchased my first power bank from a small, enthusiast-focused power bank company named Anker. I bought the Anker PowerCore+ 10050 which at the time was the pinnacle of USB battery packs. An all-metal frame, super high-quality batte
You read that correctly, here is a simple, high quality, relatively easy way to equalize (“tune”) all your headphones based on specific model data. What is AutoEQ? Well to quote the GitHub Repo “AutoEQ is a project for equalizing headphone frequency responses automatically, and it achieves this by parsing frequency response measurements and producing equalization settings that correct the headphone to a neutral sound. “ In English, this will tune your headphones to be as clos

So long to the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Due to hardware issues such as the touchscreen dying, speaker and microphone quality degrading, I have moved to the Samsung Galaxy A52s. It’s been a great ride. But for now it’s no longer my daily driver. Thanks Grandpa for the present.

No this isn’t clickbait. I am hooked on a quality android game, Grimvalor. It’s a side-scrolling hack and slash, with Dark Souls type bosses. It’s fair but challenging. Has extremely tight feeling controls, well-designed levels, and enemies as well as a great art style. It also runs nicely on a Snapdragon 720g. Cannot recommend it enough. This is the first game that will appear on Techreccs.
A few days ago my site was down and replaced with a completely different site that I was working on in the past. What happened was, the backup plugin I use called Updraft+ attaches to your Google Drive. And apparently, it by default doesn’t make a subfolder per each site being backed up. So I ended up restoring a different site from within the Updraft dashboard as it doesn’t seem to differentiate sites by itself. So please make a separate folder for each site you use Updraft with.
Rooting, for a long time, has been a mainstay in the Android community, but in the past few years it seems to have fallen out of style. Should you root in 2022? Rooting Vs Custom ROM The first thing I would like to make clear is that Rooting and installing a Custom Android ROM/OS are actually two separate things. These things tend to go hand in hand but they don’t have to. Installing a Custom ROM is like installing another whole OS, whereas Rooting is gaining Admin/Root/Superuser
PupOnTech has been featured on Two different podcasts. * Some Gadget Guy Episode # 247 * Mike Tech Show Episodes # 821 Redmi Note 9 Pro Modders Guide has been updated. Small post about my Laptop and Fedora Linux. And I hope to put out a post over the coming days, about whether its still worth rooting your phone in 2022 . Besides that just been a lot of chilling with the Doggo, and reading on my KOBO. Toodles for now.
So my beloved Thinkpad X230’s Screen decided to slowly crack down the middle the past few days. And being that the past few months have been really difficult I decided to treat myself and move to my “New” backup X230 and put the “old one as a current backup. For the sake of this post Brick 1 is the old one and Brick 2 is the new one. Specs Both Bricks are Identical in specs. Just Brick 2’s body is in much better condition and has Bluetooth as well. * I5-3320m-Dual Core 35 w
The Problem I have been saying this for years we need either, 1. One messenger that everyone uses, which will never happen!! (For more info search for the Network effect/ Critical mass. ) 2. A Contacts-based messenger app. All chats from one contact, no matter the platform, will end up in one hub under their name. 3. In the worst case scenario, at least we need a messaging app that combines all the different platforms. Once upon a time Disa was able to integrate What
Chipsets are the second forgotten bottleneck . Please note: We will not be discussing Desktop Chipsets in this article. One of the many things that I learned about while working at my previous job. Is just how different two laptops with more or less identical specs and software setups can ‘feel” completely different. Obviously, this isn’t something I have benchmarked. But having happened 10’s or even 100’s of times over the two years that I worked there I can confidently say this i
As the war in Ukraine rages both IRL and in Cyberspace, It once again seemed appropriate to double down on security. I went down the rabbit hole of firewalls again, yet still ended up back at Simplewall, with a newfound appreciation for the tool. After playing around with a few free firewalls including * Comodo Firewall * Tinywall * Windows Firewall Control Then I went down a deep rabbit hole of blocking Microsoft Telemetry. Since this is one of the main reasons I use
Youtube Vanced has been copyright striked by google. It is only a matter of time (2 Yrs) until the backend api changes break the current version. For those of you who dont know what Youtube Vanced is, you are now blessed. Anyone who has been using Youtube Vanced you can commiserate with me. For now it will be left on the Techreccs until it stops working.
Introduction. This is going to be a two-part series of “The Forgotten Bottlenecks”. The first part covers Phone Storage Speeds, and the second part covers Laptop Chipsets. . Storage Speed. The most overlooked component in a phone’s performance is the storage speed. Everyone is busy looking at SOC, RAM, Screen,OS but fails to check the storage performance. If you have ever upgraded a computer from a Hard Drive to SSD, and seen boot times go from minutes to seconds,
