Moda is the AI design agent with taste
Moda's viral launch hit 4.4 million views in two days. Tens of thousands of professionals signed up. Startups, agencies, forward-thinking brands and top firms are now using Moda to create brand-aligned slides, ad creative, reports, social carousels and more.
Most AI tools tend to create what we call "AI slop": repetitions of the same colors, layouts and fonts. And when you try to fix it, you get stuck in a loop of re-prompting.
Moda is different. Drop in your website URL, and Moda learns your brand from the ground up: your colors, your fonts, your visual language. Then it helps you generate pro-quality slides, docs, and marketing assets.
The best part? Every layer is fully editable on a real canvas, and exports to powerpoint, PDF and more.
Wandering around New Paltz, New York, one finds some of the typical sights you expect of a college town: streets filled with quirky shops and restaurants designed to appeal to people interested in cultural expression, a variety of bookstores dealing in everything from mass market works to artsy, esoteric volumes made to be collected, and enough people even on days with the worst weather to keep you on your toes. Yet, if you find yourself on Main Street looking for a place to warm up on a cold winter day or a chance to relax in a community-friendly space, then it’s worth checking out The Ridge Cafe.
The Ridge is a shop that operates a little differently than a traditional coffee shop; it still grants access to the usual fare of drip coffee, espresso, tea, and pastries along with a great atmosphere to either catch up with a friend or grab something to perk you up before making it through the rest of one’s day. But it also gives an opportunity for customers to have a say in what they’re offered.
So, let’s delve into what makes The Ridge Feel Good Friday worthy.
The Feel Good Elements of The Ridge
The Ridge Tea and Spice shop runs the Ridge Cafe, and as they were able to do before opening the cafe location, they allow customers to create their own tea blends by picking from a selection of leaves and spices. This method of co-creating the products on offer was carried into The Ridge Cafe location, which has a variety of jars lining the walls that customers can pick and choose from as they build their own unique blend to warm themselves by in the morning.
Of course, the cafe does still offer coffee, which one can order in creative concoctions that one can find in most places, but there are also a variety of tea-infused, non-caffinated options one can choose from to satisfy a late-day latte craving without risking a case of the jitters. Though, if you are simply looking for an alternative place to work with an artsy aesthetic about it, The Ridge Cafe does offer some seating where breaks between meetings can be filled with exploring the literary and art mags on hand or the specialty tea-sets, or simply taking the opportunity to enjoy the vinyl records playing in the background.
What Businesses Can Learn From The Ridge Cafe
Anytime someone walks into a coffee or tea shop, they generally have an idea of what to expect; depending on the type and the owner, it may be anything from generic to completely alternative in their approach to the decor and the menu. That’s part of why cafes are such an attractive place to work out of, because you can find almost any vibe to match your mood any given day.
Despite this variety, the underlying business model is often quite similar, because there are only so many combinations of food and beverage with curated aesthetic that will get people to travel to try it. However, that doesn’t mean that there’s no innovation happening within the cafe industry, and The Ridge does something that’s fairly unique for a cafe: it allows customers to co-create their own experience.
Co-creation as a Business Model
Co-created experiences are often something seen in marketing rather than using it as a core capability of a business. These kinds of experiences are often used to expand the perceived value a customer gets from a particular offering by inviting them into the process of actually crafting the finished product, and is most commonly seen in content-focused businesses like social media platforms. The value of this strategy is that customers start to grant access to information about their preferences and start developing an affinity for the brand that seems to want to listen to them in the process.
The Ridge Cafe takes this content-focused strategy and brings it into the real world. By allowing customers to select the components of their tea blend rather than offering curated blends of their own, the team is able to offer a distinctive value for their organization that few other cafes are willing — or able — to do. It may add some cost to the operation, as the employees have to assist with procuring the components while running the coffee shop, but it allows them to get a better sense of what people like, and that information is invaluable when planning out the next phase of growth for the organization.
An Additional Element of Growth: Partnering with Locals
Most coffee shop frequenters know that chocolate is on the menu somewhere, and The Ridge Cafe is no different. However, rather than keeping it generic when describing their hot chocolate or mocha latte, they call out the fact that they use real Krause chocolate, from a shop one can visit a few doors down, in its preparation.
By highlighting this on their menu, The Ridge Cafe can help create a more premium experience for customers who may be accustomed to having mystery chocolate added to their beverages and lean into the community connection that some customers prioritize. Both of these demographics are likely to see value in The Ridge Cafe being transparent about their ingredient sourcing, but they’re also likely to simply enjoy the cup more when they know their favorite chocolatier had a hand in making it.
The Bottom Line
Coffee shops and cafes are often places where people go to start their day, get some focused work done, or catch up with friends, and that has led to a variety of atmospheres catering to different demographics. The Ridge Cafe helps create a low-fi atmosphere for its patrons who may want nothing more than to take it easy for a while by curating a selection of art, tea, spices, coffee, and chocolate, and then asking them how they want to enjoy it the most.
For that reason, it’s perfect for someone who has been a tea drinker for some time and knows exactly what they have or haven’t liked about different blends so they could create the perfect one for them. It can also be instructive for small business owners looking to grow a client base by investing heavily in the co-creation experience for their customers so staff become expert enough to be true consultants.
Either way, The Ridge Cafe is a great place to stop by and pick up something before wandering around the rest of New Paltz, New York.
